Cosmo members, as you likely know by now the Charity Golf Classic is our largest fundraiser each year and in an average year all of our fundraising efforts total $100,000 or more. Last year provided many challenges to our fundraising efforts with the Covid-19 concerns but our membership still raised $56,000 in a very trying year. This year we are more than ever asking for your support! Our region’s not for profits have been devastated by Covid- 19 restrictions and they need us to step up to help them secure financial stability. Will you help us by signing up a foursome, become or refer a sponsor, volunteer or even just sharing this email with your friends? We appreciate your help passing this on. Sunday, October 3rd @ Rockford Rescue Mission, 11:00 AM arrival. Volunteers are limited to 10 people again We will be expecting a crowd of 200! We are honored to hold this event at Rockford Rescue Mission once again. They are a great local organization and do a ton of good in our community! Their doors are never closed, they are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They start with a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. Their services are designed to serve physical, emotional, spiritual and relational needs by empowering people to move from despair and hopelessness to hope and life-change. The services they provide are case management, medical, dental, and chiropractic treatment, counceling, life skills classes, spiritual mentoring, educational assessment and support, vocational training, and transition back into society. They offer support programs to help the families of those in recovery as well. They also serve on average 400-500 meals a day. Please remember everyone to wear masks and hats. This event will begin with a chartered bus that will accomodate 25 people for the drive to Joliet, IL at the private Autobahn Country Club. This is not your ordinary golf country club but rather a country club dedicated to racing. They have three courses that include a 1.1 mile road course, a 2.1 mile course as well as a professinal go kart track. Your $250 fee to attend will include; Round trip accomodations on a private charter Lunch and beverages on charter (no alcohol allowed on trip there) Tour of the club facility and introduction to staff 2.1 mile Road Course driving with a high end vehicle Professional Go Kart racing Reception after with snacks and cash bar Return charter trip with stocked beverages We are asking that the initial registrations be for Cosmo Club members only and if the total of 25 spots are not filled then we will allow non-membership registration. Several of us have had the opportunity to be a part of this experience last year and we all agreed that while not an inexpensive day it will certainly leave you enthused about your participation!

Cosmopolitan International has established November 7th as "Cosmopolitan International Day". This day is made to call to mind our efforts toward the mission of finding a cure for diabetes.
Cosmopolitan International Day occurs one week prior to World Diabetes Day, November 14th.
In recognition of our club's ongoing local fundraising and volunteer efforts; Mayor Thomas McNamara has proclaimed November 7th Cosmopolitan International Day in The City of Rockford.

We are partnering with Crusader Community Health, American Diabetes Association, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois to distribute 200 Thanksgiving dinners. We need 15 volunteers to be onsite (1200 W. State St.) at 2:00 PM to set up and then work until all dinners are distributed. The public distribution happens from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, November 22, 2021. |

POINSETTIA FUNDRAISER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Cosmo Brothers, it’s time to recruit volunteers to help audit, sort tickets, and then deliver thousands of plants that will be sold once again for this most awesome fundraiser!
As many of you know, there is a significant amount of coordination that goes into pulling off sale, sort, and delivery of this many plants and it cannot be done without your help! Friendly reminder, every member is required to sell a minimum of $140.00. Those members who don't meet the minimum will receive a donation assessment charge during the January 2022 member billing cycle.
HELP IS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING: ▪ 8 Auditors are needed for Envelope Audit on Wednesday December 1st ▪ 20 helpers needed for Sort Night on Thursday December 9th ▪ UNLIMITED DRIVERS will be needed for Commercial Deliveries on Friday December 10th ▪ NO SATURDAY DELIVERIES THIS YEAR!

Are you Skilled with using a letter opener and calculator? We have a job for you! All envelopes turned in at this day’s luncheon must be audited and prepped for sorting. The audit is usually completed by 3:00 P.M..
SORT NIGHT DETAILS:
Delivery Card Bingo!! A most impressive system is coordinated the night before we begin deliveries and the more volunteers we have the faster and easier the night goes. It is simple. You are given a stack of cards, the numbers are called off by our coordinator, and we gather the tickets in the order called to then organize the delivery routes. Very easy! Plus, pizza and beer will be provided!

Prime will be opening to the public in the near future and its owner Matt Idzikowski has assured us will be the first group event and we will have the entire restaurant for our private use that evening. Cost will be $40 per person and payment will need to be made at time of registration. Gifts for all spouses/significant others attending. Double T from 96.7 The Eagle will be on hand to interview Rockford's own rock n roll drummer extraordinaire from Cheap Trick, Daxx Nielsen. Growing up in a house full of musical instruments, Daxx gravitated towards the drums at a very early age. After high school Daxx traveled the US extensively with his original band, Harmony Riley. Over a period of 5 years Harmony Riley recorded 2 full length albums and 3 EP's and performed almost 1,000 shows around the US and Canada. Upon the band's dissolution Daxx packed up and moved to Los Angeles where he quickly got into the studio and touring world. His first break was drumming for surf guitar pioneer Dick Dale. While on breaks from touring he did dozens of recording sessions, performed anywhere and everywhere with numerous local artists, and formed A Fine Frenzy with singer/songwriter Alison Sudol. This led to years of touring and recording with Brandi Carlile, Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons, The Smashing Pumpkins, and numerous others. Since March of 2010, Daxx has been the touring drummer for the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTED band CHEAP TRICK, performing over 1,000 shows with them and recording the critically acclaimed Bang Zoom Crazy Hello. Daxx co-wrote and drummed on the score for Oscar Award Winning documentary UNDEFEATED. Some of the other projects Daxx has been involved with over the last few years are; drumming two nights for Eddie Vedder, drumming for The Fab Faux, as well as recording with numerous projects. |

Our speaker with be Rockford Fire Department Chief, Michele Pankow. Michele Pankow was sworn in as the 11th Fire Chief of The Rockford Fire Department on September 8, 2021. She made history when she became the first woman in the existence of the Department to serve as the Fire Chief. Before serving as Fire Chief, she was the Division Chief of Operations, which included the Emergency Services Disaster Agency Coordinator for the City of Rockford. Additionally, since starting with the Department in 1992, Chief Pankow has served as a Firefighter, a Training Officer, an EMS Operations Chief, a Lieutenant, a Captain, and a District Chief. Chief Pankow has a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University. She also holds certification as an Illinois Professional Emergency Manager (IPEM) from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and designation as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Chief Pankow was awarded the American Red Cross Disaster Services Hero in April 2021, an award given by the Red Cross of Illinois to honor individuals for great acts of bravery, dedication and service in our Community. |

Dan is the Area Executive Director for the State of Illinois and Wisconsin at the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The ADA’s mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. We lead the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fight for those affected by diabetes. Dan has been the Area Executive Director for the ADA since January 2020. Dan joined the ADA as he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 24. Dan and his team are responsible for fundraising efforts for the entire organization. The Illinois and Wisconsin Chapter focuses on Corporate, Individual, Grants/Foundations and Event fundraising support. Prior to joining the association, Dan spent 14 years in the Sports and Entertainment Industry. He has worked in the Sponsorship Sales departments for the Chicago Bears, Milwaukee Bucks, Feld Entertainment and Learfield Sports. Dan earned his bachelor’s degree in Business & Commerce and Marketing from Aurora University. He lives in Geneva with his wife Brittany, daughter Leah and son Mason. Dan will address the activities of the American Diabetes Association and how we can work together. |

Dr. Howard J. Spearman was named Rock Valley College’s eighth president in July 2020 and began his tenure as RVC president on September 1, 2020. His vision for the future of RVC is based on four pillars: access, exceptional educational opportunities, exceptional training opportunities, and diversity, equity and inclusion. A graduate of Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit, Wisconsin, Dr. Spearman went on to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. A lifelong learner, Dr. Spearman earned his Ph.D. in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service in 2009 from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With over two decades of higher education experience, his passion for student advocacy and success continues to be at the forefront of his purpose in life. While he has received multiple career achievements, his daily reward is being happily married with three growing sons. Dr. Spearman will be presenting on the good things that RVC is up to. |

Our speaker will be Mark Baldwin, former Executive Editor for the Register Star. During his tenure, he led efforts to introduce news literacy education to Rockford-area classrooms. He previously worked for news organizations in Wisconsin, Kansas, Chicago and Washington, D.C., and was an adjunct lecturer in journalism at Northwestern University. He served as a member of the boards of the Associated Press Media Editors and the News Leaders Association. He was named GateHouse Media Editor of the Year for 2017. Mark is an innovative communications professional with proven success developing original content and that captures attention and mobilizes target audiences. His career history includes leading news organizations in high-stakes environments as Editor, Executive Editor, and Project Manager. He has developed a broad knowledge of digital, print, and integrated programs; deep experience building diverse, effective teams; and a track record of engaging communities in deep conversations around difficult public issues. Mark will share on discerning fact from opinion in media reporting. |
