“COSMOPOLITAN CLUB OF ROCKFORD EXCEEDS $500,000 MILESTONE IN SUPPORTING CRUSADER DIABETES PROGRAM”

Rockford, IL--Over the past 22 years the Cosmopolitan Club of Rockford has donated more than $500,000 to Crusader Community Health, helping to establish the Crusader/Cosmopolitan Diabetes Program that has benefitted thousands of area diabetic patients. Enabled by the ongoing support of the Cosmopolitans, the program has grown to serve more than 4,000 diabetic patients annually.

A special recognition celebration was held on November 17th at the Crusader Community Health on West State Street, Rockford, when an additional $15,000 donation was also presented. Gordon Eggers, President & CEO, Crusader Community Health, noted, “The generosity and care of the Cosmopolitans has increased access to the tools of diabetes management. They enable people with diabetes to feel better today and prevent the terrible long-term complications of diabetes tomorrow”.

With several successful years of collaboration, the project became known as “Crusader Clinic Cosmopolitan Diabetes Program” and adopted the label, “UNTIL THERE IS A CURE”. The focus of the partnership has been to address barriers that interfere with keeping diabetes under control and thereby preventing its many complications. Steadfast in its commitment to improve the lives of persons with diabetes the club has funded:

  • Blood sugar test strips used in a glucometer to detect blood sugar levels-the key to avoiding the many complications of diabetes
  • Vouchers for access to optical care, dental and podiatry visits
  • Cosmopolitan Patient Learning Center at the Crusader on West State Street-touch screen health education monitors and one-on-one sessions, offers unique/individualized ways to learn
  • Purchased a van for clinic staff travel to many locations for testing as part of an outreach program
  • IPRO monitor units –continuous glucose monitor device to make important therapy adjustments
  • Naming rights to the Crusader on Alpine Patient Education Center opening in April 2017.
The Rockford Cosmopolitan Club was chartered in 1949 and currently has 195 active members. Since its formation, the club has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to many worthwhile causes in the Rockford Area.  Rockford Cosmos have donated to diabetes research and treatment since adopting diabetes as its International focus.  While Cosmopolitan International’s principal effort is directed at the fight against diabetes, its member clubs also support community service projects and charitable causes in the communities where they are located.
